Selection of Apprentices is made from the panel of National Trade Certificate holders and S.S.L.C holders (for Hotel & Catering trade group) sponsored by the Assistant Apprenticeship Advisers. The Assistant Apprenticeship Advisers are giving sufficient numbers of National Trade Certificate holders and S.S.L.C holders as per the requirement of the employees for selections. There are the types of trade apprentices. Freshers are trainees who have passed out Industrial Training Institute i.e., NTC holders. The National Trade Certificate holders are entitled to a corresponding rebate for the period of Institutional Training successfully undergone by them as is admissible as per instruction given from the Government of India. Generally trade apprentices are engaged twice in a year during April / May and October / November, But there is no objection in sponsoring and selecting the Apprentices at any time during the year. And now the system is followed for selecting the apprentices at any time during the year. The employer is empowered to engage any one who possesses, the requisite qualification as apprentices in the assigned places from the panel submitted by Asst. Apprenticeship advisers

 

As per provision 10(2) of the Apprentices Act, It is the statutory obligation in the past of the state government to give a course of Related Instruction appropriate to the trade as per syllabus approved by the Central government in consultation with Central Apprenticeship council, with a view to giving the trade apprentices, in order to get theoretical knowledge in order to become fully qualified as a skilled craftsmen. The Government of India will not permit the apprentices to appear for the final Trade test unless they had attended the prescribed number of Related Instruction classes. The related Instruction classes for apprentices are arranged in Related |Instruction Centres. The All India Apprentice Trade Test for qualified apprentices are being conducted twice in an year

 
The amount of stipend payable to Trade Apprentices as revised from 29.08.98 as follows

First Year - Rs. 820/- per Month
(b)
Second Year - Rs.940/- per Month
( c)
Third Year - Rs.1090/- per Month
(d )
Fourth Year - Rs.1230/- per Month

All controls of Apprentices undergoing Apprenticeship Training in the Central Establishments are exercised by the Central Apprenticeship council, Through Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training, Chennai, as far as |Southern Region is concerned. Some Central establishments like VSSC, Vijaya Mohini Spinning Mills, ER&DC, Keltron etc, The related Instruction classes to the apprentices is given at R.I.Centre Thiruvananthapuram, This trade Test is also being conducted by the State Apprenticeship Adviser.
